About Abbotsford School District 34 (ASD34) - Robert Bateman Secondary School

Robert Bateman Secondary School has a rich tradition of inspiring excellence in students, since 1993.  Situated in east Abbotsford, B.C., Robert Bateman Secondary currently enrolls approximately 1000 students in grades 9-12.  Bateman offers a diverse array of programs to meet the needs of our students, including athletics, academics, and arts programs, such as: the Hockey and Golf academies, the Equestrian program, MARVEL anxiety program, Advanced Placement programs, Musical Theatre, Howler Media, Career and Trades Programs, Learning Assistance, Link Crew and Student Leadership. The school supports a rich culture of learning through collaboration, that is reflected throughout the school community and the continual expansion of opportunities for learning and helping students discover their passions in life.


Bateman’s motto “Eye to Eye with Respect” is more than just a statement, but a belief that is a guiding principle in the school culture. Teachers provide multiple opportunities for learning through both formative and summative assessments, giving students the tools to succeed as learners. The staff use a Pyramid of Intervention, which includes weekly Extended Learning Opportunities, to help students grow and develop as learners.  In a commitment to lifelong learning, staff also participate in collaborative professional development to bring together teachers based on areas of education they are passionate about pursuing in their classes.


Outside of the classroom, teachers and students share in many different avenues of extra-curricular activities. Clubs showcase student passions in music, art, drama, digital production, environmental stewardship, student leadership, travel and volunteerism. At Skills Canada in 2017, Bateman took 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals  for 2D and 3D Animation, Culinary Arts and Welding. Our Key Club, is instrumental in many fundraising activities, like Halloween for Hunger and Operation Christmas Child. Bateman also sponsors many award winning sports teams at both junior and senior levels, such as: Rugby, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Hockey and Golf.  Students have won many scholarships for their efforts in 2017. Bateman Graduates of 2017 were awarded over $63, 000 in private scholarship money, as well as over $50, 000 in entrance scholarships for a variety of post institutions.


Robert Bateman Secondary offers wide range of specialty programs and extracurriculars, including:

  • Advanced Placement courses
  • Honours Program
  • Unique courses to fit every students interest, such as journalism, law, business, accounting, marketing, 3D animation, fine arts, digital arts, golf academy, broadcasting, dance, musical theatre, outdoor recreation, 2D and 3D drafting and design, theatre, dance, band, French and Japanese
  • Sports teams such as volleyball, soccer, swimming, golf, basketball, hockey, rugby and dragonboat
  • Clubs and teams such as the Green Team, culture club, travel club, scholarship team, link crew, scrapbooking club, the Howler (newspaper), improv club, drama club, multicultural club, environmental club, First Nations carving club, at club, music, chess club, Wolfpack Student Leadership, Kiwanis Key club, and yearbook, among many more!
