About Calgary Board of Education (CBE) - Queen Elizabeth High School

Queen Elizabeth High School was built in 1910 and has undergone a series of additions and renovations to keep it up to date. Students are assigned the same homeroom teacher throughout their years at Queen Elizabeth providing students with the opportunity to develop a one-on-one relationship with that teacher. This opportunity also supports students in developing relationships with their peers in different grades. The homeroom teacher is available to offer academic and emotional support. 


Why Queen Elizabeth High School

  • Course variety: Aside from the regular program of instruction offered, Queen Elizabeth High School is a designated school for the CBE Gifted and Talented Education program (GATE) for students living in north Calgary and the CBE Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program. Queen Elizabeth High School also offers students Advanced Placement (AP) programs in all core subjects, provides support for English as a Second Language students and International students and hosts the Adventurers Program.
  • Facilities: Besides Queen Elizabeth's academic classrooms and a comprehensive library, there are 2 gymnasiums, a fitness centre, an indoor climbing wall, 4 computer labs, theatre, band room, woods shop, and food lab.
  • Extracurricular activities: Extracurricular activities allow Queen Elizabeth students to pursue passions and interests that fall outside the normal curriculum. Sports teams include Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, Badminton, Football, Rugby, Field Hockey, Track and Field, Swimming and Diving, and Cross Country Running. Clubs include Board Games, Climbing, Dance, Debate, Environmental, GSA, Knitting, Photography, Yearbook, and Yoga, to name just a few.
