About California Lutheran University
Founded in 1959, California Lutheran University is home to more than 2,804 undergraduate and 1,223 graduate students who come from more than 49 countries and represent a wide variety of faiths.
Cal Lutheran's dedicated, accomplished faculty works with small classes of students who are open-minded—about ideas, about people, and about faith—and are seeking to grow as individuals.
Both in the classroom and outside of it, everyone at Cal Lutheran is committed to helping each student pursue their passions to discover their purpose, and follow that purpose to transform their community—and the world.
Why California Lutheran University
- Dedicated support: California Lutheran University's Office of International Students and Scholars offers immigration advisement, workshops, and social activities for international students. It also serves as an educational resource for students, faculty and staff. Programs and activities sponsored by the Office encourage international and American students to interact in order to provide an enriched campus community for all.
- Residency guarantee: At Cal Lutheran, we're fortunate to guarantee housing for all full-time undergraduate students. We view living on campus as an important part of a student's complete educational experience. Full-time students (those who have 12 or more units per semester) enrolled in a traditional undergraduate program are required to live on campus through their Junior year.
- Extracurricular opportunities: Student clubs and organizations are a great way to get connected to life on campus. With groups ranging from academics to politics, media and diversity, there's plenty to choose from if you're looking to get involved.
- Athletics: Cal Lutheran’s intercollegiate athletic teams compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the NCAA Division III. Men’s teams compete in baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball and water polo. Women’s teams compete in basketball, cross-country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball and water polo. Junior varsity teams compete in men’s and women’s basketball, men's and women’s soccer, baseball and women's volleyball.
- Location: California Lutheran University's 225-acre campus is located midway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, just 20 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean nestled against the hills in Thousand Oaks.
