About California State University, Channel Islands

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) is a four-year, public university in Camarillo, California. Established in 2002, it is the youngest of 23 campuses in the CSU family. Camarillo is midway between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles and just 25 miles from Malibu. CSUCI is nestled against the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains—and close to the Pacific Ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway.

As the youngest of the 23 CSU campuses, CSUCI has an energy and vibrancy that’s felt everywhere on campus. From the start, the school has offered integrative courses and programs that emphasize real-world experiences and service learning.

Community has always been important to California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI). That’s why they have built strong partnerships with local business people and community members. In turn, CSUCI students benefit by receiving real-world experiences in the form of internships and volunteer opportunities. Likewise, they better the community through their talents and hard work.

CollegeNET has ranked CSUCI 15th out of 1,549 universities in the nation in the “Social Mobility Index” (2021). The SMI measures the extent to which a college or university educates more economically-disadvantaged students at a lower tuition rate, then graduates them into promising careers.

U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 edition of Best Colleges placed CSUCI's ranking in the 20th among "Top Public Schools" based in part on graduation rates, faculty resources, admissions selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, location, campus life; range of academic offerings, activities and sports; and cost and the availability of financial aid.
