About Carleton University

Carleton University is located in beautiful Ottawa, the capital of Canada. Founded in 1942, Carleton has grown into a dynamic research and teaching institution with a tradition of anticipating and leading change. Today, the university sits on more than 100 acres, on a site between the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal, just a short distance from downtown Ottawa.

The nation’s capital is home to over 130 embassies and high commissions from around the world, government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and numerous museums. Strong connections with the high-tech sector, and with local industry leaders and research scientists have helped Carleton to create many valuable opportunities for students.

Carleton University is top 5 among comprehensive universities in Canada, top 10 for graduate employability, and top 10 in Canada for Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics. In the classroom, Carleton challenges students' thinking and teaches them the skills they need to succeed. Outside the classroom, students are challenged to apply their knowledge and skills to real world situations.

Carleton is committed to giving back through education while pursuing contributions to the common good. These founding values are at the heart of the university’s focus on research, community partnerships and teaching excellence.

Why Carleton University:

  • Thriving economic city: A large percentage of Canada's major medical, clinical and life science research centres are located in the Ottawa area, as well as a growing technology industry with over 1,900 companies.
  • Co-op opportunities: The majority of Carleton University programs feature work-study opportunities (known as "co-op"), that allow students to gain full-time, paid employment related to their academic program.
  • Close-knit, supportive and diverse community: This includes academic support, help with jobs and career, health and counselling, student life, athletics, and 300+ student-run clubs and societies. Students come from 140+ countries and have many opportunities to get involved in community-building activities both on and off-campus.
  • Campus is a green oasis: Carleton's campus is nestled between the Rideau River, Rideau Canal and Dow’s Lake. The campus is self-contained, and a focus on community encourages student interaction, which can provide students with both valuable communication skills and lasting friendships.
  • Entrance scholarships: Qualified applicants are automatically offered entrance scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $16,000 CAD over four years, and a place in one of Carleton’s on-campus residences.

Application Fee Notice: Please be aware that the application fees are subject to change depending on program level, portal used, previous post-secondary education, and number of OUAC applications.
