About Oxford International - Halifax Campus

Oxford International Halifax (formerly known as East Coast Language College (ECLC)) is an ESL school for adults and is an official IELTS Test Centre. It is owned and managed by ESL instructors since 1998. The school caters to motivated students who want to work hard to achieve academic excellence and personal success. Oxford International Halifax is located in downtown Halifax, close to restaurants, universities, libraries, grocery stores, markets, and shops. The current campus was purpose-built in 2011 and is bright and welcoming – most students are surprised to find such bright colours in a school. They love the warm atmosphere and enjoy relaxing and studying in the spacious student lounge.

Oxford International Halifax believes that sound relationships are the key to the success of any institution. Its aim is to focus on the concerns of the individuals and groups listed below:

  • Students: to ensure they meet their diverse linguistic (whether social, business, or academic) goals
  • The qualified teaching and admissions staff: to ensure they enjoy their working environment and therefore have maximum job satisfaction and dedication
  • Students’ agents, sponsors, and families: to ensure they are completely satisfied with their decision to place students at Oxford International Halifax
  • University partners and students’ future employers/contacts: to ensure outstanding student results are well accepted and well respected

Oxford International Halifax's mission is to enable students to achieve their full potential through the delivery of exceptional English-language training in a respectful and supportive environment.

Why Oxford International Halifax

  • Location: Unlike other major urban centers, more than 90% of the population in Halifax speaks English so it’s the perfect place for students to immerse themselves in the language and learn faster. Everything that a big city like Toronto or Montreal has can be found in Halifax. Restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, sports arenas, art galleries, museums and so on are here. People here enjoy live music in traditional Celtic eateries and Halifax has a very vibrant “patio culture” where bars and restaurants build outdoor seating so everyone can enjoy the summer weather. There are six universities and four major colleges in Halifax with over 50,000 students living and studying here. Students love the young urban vibe.
  • Social activities: Each week, Oxford International Halifax hosts two to four social activities for students. There are many opportunities to practice English in a social context while having fun and making new friends from Canada and around the world. Annual events include Halifax scavenger hunt, Lobster boil, Easter celebration, Barbecue party, Trip to Peggy's Cove,  Trip to Cape Breton, Trip to Prince Edward Island, Halloween party, Christmas party, Tidal Bore Rafting, Ski/Snowboard trip, Camping, and On Tree Ziplining. More casual activities may include discovering restaurants, soccer games, movie nights, watching hockey games, visiting museums and galleries, canoeing, cosmic bingo, curling, wine tours, kayaking, cosmic bowling, beach days, ice skating, bouldering, university and college tours, dances, boat party, and seasonal events in the city.
  • Small classes: Oxford International Halifax's average class size is between 8 - 10 students for lower levels and 12 - 14 for higher levels so students get lots of personal time with the instructor.
