About Edmonton Catholic Schools (ECSD) - Elementary & High Schools

In 1888, Edmonton Catholic parents applied to organize a separate school district for their children. Three sisters from the Faithful Companions of Jesus sailed from France to open a convent and a school in Edmonton (St. Joachim Catholic School). The ECSD has grown from one school to 100 with more than 42,000 students. Edmonton Catholic Schools is committed to offering a Christ-centred, competency-based learning experience for all learners. Every facet of their learning system is aligned to offer an excellent Catholic education that inspires students to develop the conceptual and procedural understanding needed for successful learning, living, and working in Alberta and beyond. The district is comprised of 50 elementary schools, 21 elementary/junior high schools, 11 junior high schools, 3 elementary/junior/senior high schools, 1 junior/senior high school, 9 senior high schools, and 1 alternative education service.

Why Edmonton Catholic School District Elementary & High Schools

  • English language support: All identified English Language Learners are assessed yearly with the Alberta Education K-12 ESL Proficiency Benchmarks to determine their level of English in order to program for them in the inclusive classroom.
  • Location: Edmonton is a growing city that has one of the fastest developing economies in Canada. It is known for the river valley park system that runs through the city - it is 12 times larger than New York City's Central Park. We have cold, but sunshine-filled winters and very pleasant, warm summers. Edmonton is only a few hours' drive from both the Banff and Jasper National Parks.

NOTE: Acceptance into the schools will be dependent on space and resources.
