About Florida A&M University

Established on October 3, 1887, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a four-year public, co-educational institution of higher learning, accredited by the SACSCOC and located in Tallahassee, the capital city of Florida. FAMU is the only Historically Black University in the State University System of Florida. Today, FAMU welcomes students committed to excellence from all backgrounds, states and nations or countries. FAMU has been named the highest-ranked public historically Black college and university (HBCU) by the U.S News & World Report 2021 Best Colleges ranking of Top Public Universities. Additionally, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is also ranked number two among all Florida engineering programs.

FAMU values diversity in thought, perspective, and culture. The University enrolls nearly 10,000 students hailing from across the United States and more than 70 countries, including several African countries, the Caribbean, the Gulf region, Latin America, to name a few. The student body includes representatives from all ethnic, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds.

FAMU’s main campus has 156 buildings spread over 422 acres atop the highest of Tallahassee’s seven hills. The University also has several satellite campuses, including the College of Law located in Orlando, Florida, pharmacy programs in Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa, as well as the recently acquired Brooksville Agricultural Research Station. FAMU has fourteen schools and colleges, offers 56 bachelors’ degrees, 29 master’s degrees, 3 professional degrees and 12 doctoral degrees.” Excellence with Caring”- remains its goal.
