About Gonzaga University

Gonzaga University is an exemplary learning community that educates students for lives of leadership and service for the common good.

In keeping with its Catholic, Jesuit, and humanistic heritage and identity, Gonzaga models and expects excellence in academic and professional pursuits and intentionally develops the whole person -- intellectually, spiritually, culturally, physically, and emotionally.

Through engagement with knowledge, wisdom, and questions informed by classical and contemporary perspectives, Gonzaga cultivates in its students the capacities and dispositions for reflective and critical thought, lifelong learning, spiritual growth, ethical discernment, creativity, and innovation.

The Gonzaga experience fosters a mature commitment to dignity of the human person, social justice, diversity, intercultural competence, global engagement, solidarity with the poor and vulnerable, and care for the planet. Grateful to God, the Gonzaga community carries out this mission with responsible stewardship of our physical, financial, and human resources.

Why Gonzaga University

  • Location: Gonzaga is located in Spokane, a city that National Geographic Traveler magazine named one of the "Best Cities in the United States." It's a city that is large enough to have plenty going on year-round, and yet small enough to be friendly, livable, and easy to explore. Eastern Washington and the nearby Idaho panhandle region boast a jaw-dropping landscape of rivers, lakes, mountains, and desert, with four beautiful seasons. Gonazaga is on the "sunny side" of the state, with far less rain than western Washington.
  • Student involvement: Student Involvement and Leadership (SIL) is home to the Center for Student Involvement (110+ clubs, student governments and SpikeNites), Payne Center for Leadership Development, Student Media, Gonzaga Outdoors, and the Transfer, Veteran and Returning Adult Office. A student-centered, student-driven department dedicated to empowering Gonzaga University students to create and partake in experiences that foster learning and development, preparing students to be leaders in their communities and engaged citizens of the world.
  • Liberal arts tradition: The academic heart of Gonzaga's liberal arts tradition lies in its University Core Curriculum, which integrates philosophy, theology, mathematics, literature, writing and speaking. A common thread throughout all of these disciplines is the value of the written word; students at Gonzaga carry out extensive writing projects throughout all their courses of study.
  • Intramural athletics: The Intramural Sports Program is one of the most popular attractions on campus with over 2,785 students participating annually in over 30 sports. The Intramural Sports staff is here to serve you and to do everything possible to make sure that your experience is a positive one.
