About Hood College

Founded in 1893 in Frederick, Maryland, Hood College is a coeducational, independent, liberal arts college. 

Hood offers 32 bachelor’s degrees, 25 concentrations, 45 minors, and pre-professional preparation in medicine, veterinary science, dentistry and law. Hood’s Graduate School serves a large international student population, offering 19 master’s degrees, two doctorates and 10 graduate certificate programs. The graduate programs provide leading-edge content in business, computing, science and education and unparalleled access to employment opportunities

Hood is located in a fantastic college town; students are within walking distance of shops, galleries and restaurants and a vibrant downtown. Hood College's proximity to Washington, D.C., Baltimore and the I-270 technology corridor provides students countless internship and research opportunities (including OPT/CPT opportunities for international students).

  • Centrally Located Historic Campus: Hood's picturesque 50-acre campus is ideally situated in the middle of charming, historic Frederick, Maryland, less than one hour from Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Gettysburg, and surrounded by mountain views. College towns are known for their youthful, intellectual energy. Hood's community of Frederick is no exception, with its modern sensibility, love of learning, diverse population and vibrant cultural scene. Students can take an easy walk to Downtown Frederick to a lively Main Street, with an eclectic mix of restaurants and cafes, unique specialty shops, galleries, museums and theatres housed in Civil War-era buildings. Carroll Creek Park features a walking path with plenty of seating and public art. Just a couple blocks from campus, Baker Park boasts 58 acres of tennis courts, softball and baseball fields, Culler Lake, a public swimming pool, playgrounds, a band shell and a walking path to Downtown Frederick.
  • Professional Opportunities:  Hood College offers resources and support for international students interested in practical training (OPT/CPT) during their program or after it ends. The Graduate School is proud to report a 100% OPT/CPT application approval rate, with 100% of those approvals resulting in employment with an average starting salary of $70-75K.   • Accreditations: Hood College is accredited by the Middles States Commission on Higher Education. Hood College's undergraduate business and MBA programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, the premier organization that accredits business schools that have a teaching focus. The bachelor's degree in computer science is ABET accredited, which is a demonstration of its commitment to providing students quality education. The counseling programs have received accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The nursing programs are approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing and the Maryland Higher Education Commission; the BSN is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The social work program is accredited for undergraduate social work education by the Council of Social Work Education.
