Founded on the idea of empowering people to succeed in a digital world, IU International University of Applied Sciences first came into existence in 1998. And since receiving accreditation from the German Council of Science and Humanities, IU’s grown into Germany’s biggest university. The university's mission is to create inclusive, global and wholly accessible education. It’s why IU has been at the forefront of online learning for over a decade. IU International University of Applied Sciences is state-recognised by the federal government of Thuringen, Germany, and its degrees are recognised around the world. The International University of Applied Sciences has made it its mission to teach all IU students to learn how to work with AI, so IU students will develop AI skills as their professional superpower. They will sstudy along with Syntea, IU's GPT-powered AI tutor, and learn how to create effective prompts in IU's prompt engineering courses, available in every programme the university offers.

The campus is located in the heart of Berlin, with around 2000 students studying in the cultural hotspot.
