About Louis Riel School Division (LRSD)

Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) is a school district in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Cana​da. As the largest city in the capital of Manitoba, Winnipeg is a prosperous and growing urban centre with a diverse population and economy. The school division is named after Louis Riel, who was a political figure in the history of Manitoba. Louis Riel lived from 1844-1885 and was involved in the Founding of the Province of Manitoba. Today there are more than 14,000 students who receive modern, quality education in many subject areas, taught in either English or French – or both! The division consists of 40 schools, including eight high schools. It has more than 1,500 professional and teaching staff and also offers accredited post-secondary education through the Arts and Technology Centre in a number of different programs.

The International Student Program (ISP) offered at LRSD schools is accredited and a member of Imagine Canada, CAPS-I and MCIE. Each year, LRSD welcomes students from all over the world to study and enjoy the experience of a lifetime in Canada. ISP provides:

  • Quality, affordable educational experiences
  • The opportunity for students to attend classes in either English or French
  • English support for students new to the language
  • Top-quality programming across a broad range of courses for students of all ages

Outside of regular curriculum students can expand their learning in many areas including music, technology, sports, theatre, arts, and vocational programming. ​Many students graduate with a Manitoba high school diploma (it's recognized worldwide) and go on to pursue post-secondary education in Canada or abroad.
