About Musicians Institute - Guitar Craft Academy Nashville
The Guitar Craft Academy (GCA) provides intensive, hands-on training in the specialized skills of luthiery—the art of guitar building and technical maintenance.
In just six months at GCA, students will be trained to design, fabricate and nish their own electric guitar or bass—turning raw wood into a completed instrument of their own creation. They’ll also gain detailed knowledge of:
- Guitar Pickups & Fretwork
- Wiring Modifications
- Repairs & Maintenance
- Advanced Electronics
Students will also develop musical skills through weekly private lessons focused on sound, design, and technique.
In addition to giving students the satisfaction of taking home an instrument they built with their own hands, GCA will train them to work in the music industry, preparing them for careers including:
- Working at a guitar maintenance and repair shop
- Being a luthier for a custom boutique shop
- Touring as a guitar/bass tech for artists and bands
- Campus: As an alternative to a traditional classroom setting, all courses are taught at GCA’s state-of-the-art workshop facilities, which are fully equipped with industry-standard tools and technology. In addition, GCA regularly offers night classes to accommodate busy schedules.
- Facilities: The Guitar Craft Academy facilities contain state-of-the-art workshop equipment, including industry-standard tools & technology used for the design, fabrication, electrical wiring and repair of guitars and basses, including: Various Industry-standard saws, drill presses, sanders, buffers, jointers, mills, routers, CNC machine, etc..
- Works of Art: Whether one wants to be a professional luthier, an instrument manufacturer, a musician with extra hands-on experience, or a hobbyist who loves woodworking—GCA is an ideal program to expand their knowledge and give them the skills to create beautiful works of art.
- Professional Instructors: Musicians Institute’s Guitar Craft Academy hosts a highly skilled faculty with extensive experience in their field. Each department boasts a number of widely respected instructors who are able to impart to students practical information earned in professional careers.
