About New Westminster School District 40 (NWSD40) - Elementary and Middle Schools

New Westminster School District has been providing a quality public education since the 1920. The school district has eight elementary and three middles schools all of which welcome international students. The school district promote caring, inclusive, and is committed to teaching students about community dedication to support each other. The faculty works directly with students helping them develop skills and competencies they need to be productive and successful citizens in a rapidly changing world. Elementary and middle school students usually begin their studies in September, although mid-year enrolments are possible if space permits.

Additionally, the school district makes all efforts to place students in their catchment school or school of choice. As well, in accordance with district procedures, international students are placed in the grade level corresponding to their year of birth. School availability varies from year to year and not all requests can be accommodated.  International elementary and middle school students are integrated directly into regular classes, and given extra attention and support by teachers for language learning. Also, New Westminster School District recognizes that the needs of children between the ages of 10-13 are unique and specific. To better cater to these students, the school district has introduced the Middle School concept within there three modern schools that are located within the city. New Westminster School District takes pride in offering nurturing learning environments for students and every effort is made to make international students feel included and welcome.

  • Extracurricular activities: New Westminster School District offer an exciting array of after school programs to engage the wide array of kids, youth and families in the neighbourhoods. These programs are designed to support and promote student well-being. Some of the programs that are offered are Yoga, Art Waves, Story and Craft, Escape Rooms for Kids, Art Attack and many more. 
  • Course variety: New Westminster School District Elementary Schools offer a wide variety of courses for students such as: English, Business, French, Geography, History, Math, Music, Physical Education, Science, Technology, and Visual Arts. As well, some additional elementary schools offer French Immersion program.
  • Community: New Westminster is a safe, pleasant place to live and study. Often called a small town within a big city, it is part of Greater Vancouver and the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Located only 25 minutes from Vancouver International Airport by car and 25 minutes from downtown Vancouver by Skytrain.
