About North Island College - Port Alberni

North Island College is a comprehensive community college that focuses on student success. NIC proudly serves more than 9,000 students annually at four campuses, a learning centre and through online and in-community learning. NIC is distinguished by their commitment to student success through strong partnership agreements with universities and colleges across BC, the US and around the world. NIC has been internationally recognized for its technology-enabled distance learning and responsive in-community programs.


Located on Roger Street, the Port Alberni campus provides classrooms for programming including nursing, early childhood care and education, university transfer classes and more, along with the bookstore and library.

  • Campus Life and Surroundings: The Port Alberni campus is located in Port Alberni, on British Columbia's Vancouver Island. Along with the Roger Street campus, NIC’s Tebo Vocational Centre on Tebo Avenue provides shops and equipment for trades training students.  Students can also walk between the two locations via the Scott Kenny Trail.
  • Facilities: The campus is home to the Culinary Arts Building, the location of the Roger Street Bistro. The Roger Street Bistro is a fully-equipped professional kitchen where Culinary Arts students can practice and hone their skills. 
  • Experienced Faculty: NIC’s highly qualified faculty include PhD holders with international credentials, who proudly support students and their studies. Class sizes give students and lecturers the opportunity to get to know one another.
