Why Northwestern Polytechnic

  • Community: Ideally located in northwestern Alberta, Northwestern Polytechnic helps meet the cultural, recreational, athletic and conferencing needs of the region in partnership with community and regional stakeholders. In Grande Prairie, the College offers athletic, music, art and science summer camps; and the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre is frequently the site of concerts, community music festivals, dance recitals, speakers' series and industrial seminars. Opportunities abound for students to socialize and get involved in campus and community activities. The Town of Fairview and surrounding communities offer extensive walking/cross-country ski trails, 9-hole golf course, curling rink, bowling alley, hockey arena and many sports fields. There are many active recreational clubs in the community which welcome new members as well as many community events. All community services and amenities are just a short walk from the campus.
  • Learning Opportunities: The College strongly encourages and supports applied research and innovative scholarly activities that complement and enhance teaching and learning in program areas and within industry sectors where its academic expertise enables such a contribution. Northwestern Polytechnic is dedicated to providing learners with access to high quality and diverse lifelong learning opportunities, and to the responsible educational, fiscal and environmental stewardship of resources. It is a comprehensive community institution, publicly supported to provide opportunities in post-secondary education in northwestern Alberta.
  • Facilities: The Learning Commons houses modernized study spaces and is the academic heart of Northwestern Polytechnic, offering a range of supports and services for both students and faculty. The fitness centre offers a fully-equipped weight room, cardio room with state-of-the-art exercise equipment and raquetball/squash courts, plus a full-size indoor pool with waterslide and hot tub. Other on-campus amenities include a cafeteria, bookstore, computer labs, theatre, residence, bank machines and a working farm. Students can even bring their horses to school — boarding facilities and an indoor riding arena are available on campus.
