About Northwestern Polytechnic - Grande Prairie

Northwestern Polytechnic previously known as Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC), was established in 1966 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, and includes campuses in Grande Prairie, as well as in Fairview, Alberta. Northwestern Polytechnic offers something for everyone with a variety of educational options including university transfer; diploma and certificate programs; apprenticeship and pre-employment trades training; and adult high school equivalency completion. The highly-qualified faculty, affordable tuition, small classes, personal contact and extensive scholarship and awards program offered by Northwestern Polytechnic attract students from a wide area. The College has developed collaborative partnerships with other institutions to provide programming through our campuses that rapidly and effectively meets the varied needs of its learners.

Located in the south of Alberta’s Peace Country, and 450kms Northwest of Edmonton, Northwestern Polytechnic Grande Prairie Campus delivers state-of-the-art career programs & specialty training. Students have the benefit of smaller class sizes coupled with high quality personalized instruction, ensuring comprehensive opportunities for the learners of our region as well as students from across Canada and around the world. Programs include hands-on training to give graduates a head start in their chosen field. Instruction in selected programs is provided through both classroom instruction and videoconference.

In Grande Prairie, the College offers athletic, music, art and science summer camps; and the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre is frequently the site of concerts, community music festivals, dance recitals, speakers' series and industrial seminars. The Northwestern Polytechnic Student's Association works hard to make college life a pleasant experience, looking out for the student interest and hosting a variety of entertainment. Howlers on-campus lounge is a great place to meet up with friends for a pool and some good food!

  • Facilities: The Grand Prairie campus includes a cafeteria, daycare, on-site bank machines, bookstore, theatres, fitness centre and more. The Learning Commons is the academic heart of Northwestern Polytechnic, and offers supports to both students and faculty in a number of areas, including research. The college has an on-site Health Centre that provides countless services for students. The residences are located a short walk away from the city's Muskoseepi Park trail system, which winds through the city following along Bear Creek.
