Founded on December 25, 1890 as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, Oklahoma State University's (OSU's) land-grant mission is to make a college education more accessible. The university's roots are set in a rich tradition, and actions are guided by the Cowboy Code. OSU welcomes students with arms wide open, ready to help them turn a student's curiosity and interests into knowledge, passions, skills and talent that will take them as far as they dream to go. Science, engineering and humanities research takes place in every college on the OSU campuses, and the Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa. Oklahoma State research is in lock-step with its land-grant legacy. Research at OSU, a Carnegie R1 research university, is relevant, accessible and beneficial — whether it’s exploring basic scientific questions or applied concepts that directly impact lives. The OSU research community is broad and tight-knit. Faculty members have the opportunity to explain why their research matters in a casual, face-to-face setting with the local community each month at OSU Research On Tap. This event allows people to learn about research happening at OSU. OSU's researchers create treatments for disease, develop technologies to improve lives, explore natural ecosystems and microscopic organisms, and advance many other areas. At the same time, their talents include teaching the next generation of scientists, engineers and scholars.
