The Peel District School Board has been welcoming international students since 2005. Peel Schools for International Students was established to enhance the level of support available to international students studying in the Greater Toronto Area.
Why Peel District School Board (PDSB)
- Receive a World Class Education: Canada is recognized around the globe as a leader in educational excellence. Peel District Board students rank among the best in the world when it comes to standard test results, reading, math and science. The OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment in 2018 ranked Ontario, Canada students among the top 10 readers in the world. In another international study, Ontario's education system was ranked as one of the best in the world.
- Commitment to Education and Student Success: The PDSB's mission is to inspire success, confidence and hope in each student. The Board wants to ensure they help each student succeed in learning at every stage of life. In PDSB, students in grades 7 to 12 tailor are able to customize their education to their individual strengths, goals and interests. Part of this strategy involves small class sizes so students can continue to get the attention they need to succeed.
- English Language Support: At PDSB, students will have every opportunity to improve their use of English. Canada is recognized around the globe as a leader in ESL education. Students will be integrated with Canadian students and will take classes with Canadian students. This allows international students to practise their spoken and written English on a daily basis. They will also spend a portion of their day with other international students and a teacher trained to help international students learn academic-level English.
- Post-Secondary Preparation: Students who attend Peel Schools for International Students can earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), which is recognized internationally. Students can take academic or applied level courses to prepare for college or university. PDSB's partnerships with the University of Toronto Mississauga and Sheridan College helps students prepare for their post-secondary studies, whether they decide to stay in Canada or continue their education elsewhere.
- Vibrant Culture: Both Mississauga and Brampton have a vibrant cultural environment and diversity is celebrated. This encourages cultural immersion and exchange, shaping international students into cultural ambassadors with a greater understanding of the world. PDSB's schools are a warm and welcoming environment for all students where our differences are recognized, celebrated and understood.
- Modern Learning: Peel's Empowering Modern Learners vision has been a cornerstone of Teaching and Learning in Peel DSB classrooms. Educators have embraced innovative practices that foster learning experiences that meet the needs of the students and families within an ever-changing social context.
