About Sault College - Sault Ste. Marie

Sault College, located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario opened it's doors in 1965 as an Ontario Vocational Centre and evolved into one of Ontario's early community colleges, becoming the independent Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology in 1973. Sault College has grown tremendously over the years, adding programs in all disciplines. They now respond to the post-secondary educational needs of more than 2,600 part-time and full-time students each year. The vision of Sault College is to make society a better place by providing a transformative life experience through empowering those who study with them to think and learn in progressive, innovative ways, including those one  has not yet imagined.

Whatever a student's educational goals, Sault College is dedicated to satisfying their learning needs. In February 2020, Sault College was ranked Number One in overall Quality of Learning Experience and in Overall Quality of Facilities, and was ranked Number Two in Overall Quality of the Services. With enthusiastic staff, small class sizes and a student-to-faculty ratio lower than the provincial average, Sault College students learn in a supportive environment.

Why Sault College

  • Support: Friendliness is essential when visiting a new destination. The Sault College community wants students to meet people who are happy to greet them, answer questions, and welcome them. Sault Ste. Marie was ranked in the top 10 Friendliest cities in Canada by Expedia in 2018 – there is no wonder they are home to a large – and rapidly growing – population of international students.
  • Campus life: Students have access to many services to help them thrive. Students can visit the library for group and individual work spaces, and peer tutoring. They can find employment services at the Student Job Centre; visit the Salon and Spa to be pampered; find calm in the reflection room; find welcome and inclusiveness in the Equity room. There are also multiple dining option and a student pub.  The Sault College Athletic Association has a huge variety of opportunities for participation in both competitive and recreational activities.
  • Location: The sun, miles of sandy beaches, swimming, BBQs, biking and more. Sault Ste. Marie is a gateway to summer adventure for day trips up the coast of Lake Superior as well as camping, and hiking. For the summertime urbanite, the Sault also has enough to keep one busy; dog parks, skate parks, downtown street parties, walks along the boardwalk, a summer concert series, outdoor yoga and fitness classes, and a 22.5 km non-motorized hub trail are just some of the amenities to take advantage of. In the winter, students can take part in ice fishing, fatbiking, skating, skiing, snowboarding, sleigh rides, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice caves, hiking and more. In the Sault, one can sign-up for a yoga snowshoe class during the day and take a midnight ski by the light of lanterns at night.  Sault Ste. Marie has over 150 km of world-class ski trails, and is just a 45 minute car ride to one of the best mountain resorts in Ontario. It is also home of the Soo Greyhounds, and the historic Bon Soo Winter Carnival, the ‘Fifth Season’ in Northern Ontario.
