About Southern Ontario Collegiate

Southern Ontario Collegiate is a private, university-preparatory, secondary school specializing in preparing international students to meet admission requirements for universities in Canada, USA, UK, Australia, and other prestigious universities around the world.

Southern Ontario Collegiate opened its doors in 1980 and has grown exponentially since then. While the student population grows every year, the Collegiate's focus remains the development of each individual's potential. Southern Ontario Collegiate's philosophy is "a balance of knowledge and wisdom" which equips our students with the skill sets fundamental to success at university and success at life.

Souther Ontario Collegiate prides itself on being able to provide an environment where the students' individual strengths are nurtured and where each personal success helps build character and allows their confidence to flourish. Its teachers discuss with students about their study plan and career directions and recommend the most suitable courses that match their personal goals and English levels. Upon arrival at SOC, students are registered into the Maplewood Student Information System. Parents are issued an access code that allows them to monitor attendance and marks when posted.

Why Southern Ontario Collegiate

  • Location: With a population of over 500,000 people, Hamilton is Canada’s 9th largest city, located on the shores of Lake Ontario, midway between the world-famous Niagara Falls and Toronto. Hamilton has intriguing geographical features that include a large harbour, lakefront, and the Niagara Escarpment that weaves through the middle of the urban landscape, providing spectacular views and numerous waterfalls. Hamilton is also home to three post-secondary institutions, including McMaster University, Mohawk College and Redeemer University College. Southern Ontario Collegiate is situated in the downtown core of Hamilton, with easy access to Hamilton City Centre. The main city library, financial district, central train and bus stations, downtown mall, supermarkets, and banks are all within 10 minutes’ walk.
  • Facilities: Southern Ontario Collegiate is equipped with all the facilities necessary for a well-rounded education. Its campus offers intelligent multimedia-projection classrooms, a double-floor, 300-seat auditorium, a full-sized gymnasium, a fully equipped computer room, and an on-campus cafeteria for breakfast and lunch meals during school days.
  • Small class sizes: Although the student population is growing, Southern Ontario Collegiate's vision is to remain a small school. Class sizes average 15 – 20 students, so it is easier for the teachers to get to know the students, assess their strengths and weaknesses and monitor their progress. Students are not intimidated to ask questions in class or to approach the teachers for further help.
  • Academic achievement: 98% of Southern Ontario Collegiate students enter top-rated universities in Canada and beyond. Students benefit from modern teaching methods, well-equipped classrooms, and highly dedicated teachers, many of whom hold advanced degrees in the subjects they teach. Teachers are committed to students’ success and provide support to those who require it.
