About The Sacred Heart School of Montreal

The Sacred Heart School of Montreal is a CAIS (Canadian Association of Independent Schools) Boarding School. SHSM is the city's only all girls English Catholic high school. Sacred Heart opened in 1861 and is a member of a worldwide network of 148 schools across 30 countries that share common goals, mission, and values. Sacred Heart Schools were founded in 1800 by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, who visioned delivering an education that would inspire young women to be agents of social transformation in their own times. The Sacred Heart School of Montreal is committed to developing young women of intellect, wisdom, compassion, and a sense of social justice.

CampusTheir current home on Atwater Ave. is the sixth home of the school since its inception in 1861. City House, as it is fondly known, is a building rich in history and equipped for the modern student. Rooted in tradition, but always evolving. The truly international character of a Sacred Heart School aids in fostering a global education and citizenship in their girls.

Facilities: Located in the west wing of the school, the Residence quarters are equipped with: eight double rooms, two single rooms and one quad for short stay boarders. A communal lounge area with cozy couches, a large-screen TV, a piano, and a variety of games. A beautiful solarium with 180-degree view of the city, Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen to keep their snacks, a newly renovated dining area. Boarders will be served nutritious, well-balanced and delicious family-style breakfasts and dinners. Lunches take place with the day students in the cafeteria. A brand-new student lounge where students can study, read and socialize, as well as laundry facilities.

Co-curricular activities: The Sacred Heart School of Montreal recognizes that extracurricular athletics promotes leadership, team building, good citizenship, high academic standards, and community responsibility. Extracurricular athletics demand a high level of commitment, excellence, and self-motivation, which will help prepare students for the challenges they will meet outside the school community. Leading with a competitive drive, the athletics program also teaches values like commitment, sportsmanship, teamwork, and resiliency.

Culture: Sacred Heart’s boarding wing provides a unique opportunity for students from various cultures and communities to experience boarding life in the dynamic and multicultural city of Montreal. The residence has full-time supervision provided by our in-residence team.
