About University of Alberta Year One Foundation Program (in partnership with Kaplan International) - North Campus

A member of U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities, the University of Alberta is one of Canada’s top five universities and among the  very best in the world! International students can join the Year One Foundation Program to help them meet admission standards for the University’s bachelor’s degree programs. At this world-changing institution, students benefit from paid Work Integrated Learning as part  of their studies, and fixed tuition costs for the duration of an undergraduate degree. Graduates have excellent employment outcomes.  Edmonton is the fifth largest city in Canada but is much more affordable than other major study destinations like Vancouver or Toronto.

Study options at the University of Alberta
  • Year One Foundation Program: The Year One Foundation Program at the University of Alberta assists students who do not meet entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate major. Small class sizes and comprehensive academic support help students successfully complete the program and progress to the second year of undergraduate studies.
  • University of Alberta degree progression: There are a range of majors that students can progress into after the Year One Foundation Program. Available disciplines include Agriculture, Arts, Business, Computing, Humanities, Marketing, Mathematics, Media, Psychology, Sciences, and Social Science. 
Costs and scholarships
  • Tuition and fees: Tuition covers the cost of a student’s classes, but there are also additional institutional and student service fees that must be paid by all students. Students do not pay an application fee when they apply through Kaplan and benefit from fixed tuition costs for the duration of an undergraduate degree.
  • Other costs: As well as tuition, there are other associated costs when students are enrolled in a Canadian university program. Student housing, a meal plan,  health insurance, books, supplies and university fees all need to be factored in. It is also necessary to have extra funds for transportation and personal expenses.
  • Scholarships: U of A does not currently award scholarships to students entering the Year One Foundation Program
