About University of Jamestown

University of Jamestown (formerly Jamestown College) was the first college to be chartered in what is now North Dakota. It was founded in 1883, six years before North Dakota became a state. University of Jamestown is more than a private, liberal arts University. It is a community dedicated to the development of students—who they are. Who they want to be. And how they can make a difference in their future careers.

University of Jamestown is constantly growing and expanding, while staying true to their Christian roots. UJ cares for their students like family. And believe their success can only be found by pursuing new and innovative approaches to education.

The University of Jamestown's main campus is located in Jamestown, ND. They offer undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs—all taught by faculty who are committed to helping students succeed. Students will even get a dedicated faculty advisor from day one.

Students are UJ's number one priority. Every decision they make is in support of the students and their mission.

Why University of Jamestown

    • Campus: Founded in 1883, overlooking the Jamestown community, this location is still home to the main campus for undergraduate students. Though the University continues to modernize buildings and invest in new structures, they stay true to their history. Students can walk around the Jamestown campus and they’ll find red brick buildings. It feels like an ivy league, just without the intimidation factor (the longest walk between classes is only six minutes!).
    • Athletics: 22 varsity sports. One team. At UJ, everyone is a Jimmie. Athletes. Students. Alumni. Fans. Everyone. And with that, comes a strong athletic tradition. UJ recruits students from everywhere and offers the most varsity sports of any North Dakota college. It’s not just about competing, though, it’s about building relationships between the community and campus. Members of the UJ community, regardless of skill level, are encouraged to participate in Jimmie Intramurals. It’s a great way for people with shared interests to meet.
    • Clubs and Organizations: UJ believes learning that happens outside of the classroom is crucial to the college experience. Joining a club, group, or organization is not only beneficial to a future career, it’s also a great way to find friends who have similar interests. There are more than 30 active student-led clubs and organizations on campus. Some focus on academics, others on athletics, faith, service and more.
    • Internships and Career Preparation: The Career Center is dedicated to every students' individual, professional success. The Career Center team is available to help students find an internship, prepare for graduate school, and begin their career. Whether students are researching internship opportunities, preparing for interviews, or exploring different employers and locations, the team is with them every step of the way.
    • Best in the Midwest: University of Jamestown has again been ranked as one of the best academic institutions in the Midwest by both U.S. News and World Report’s “2022 Best Colleges” and The Princeton Review’s “2022 Best Colleges: Region by Region”
