About University of Vermont - Burlington

Founded in 1791, the University of Vermont is a top public research university of ideal size, large enough to offer a breadth of ideas, resources, and opportunities, yet scaled to enable close faculty-student mentorship across all levels of study. UVM students’ educational experience and activities are enriched by its location — from the energy and innovation of Burlington to the forests, farms, mountains, and independent spirit of Vermont.

UVM is fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE; formerly the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, NEASC). Undergraduate students have enrolled from 48 states and 44 countries or areas. UVM recruits both first time first year students and transfer students.
