About Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Arts - Communication Studies

The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) may be completed in as few as two semesters and is designed specifically for students who are ready to succeed in immersive English-speaking classrooms.

The Academic Accelerator program gives students a firsthand, practical, and cultural understanding of the American University campus and the Washington, DC, area through its contextual curriculum. They may enter the program in the spring or fall and progress into year two of their undergraduate education with up to a full year’s worth of academic credits. Depending on their intended degree, they may choose their elective curriculum in social sciences, humanities, or the sciences.

If students seeking a broad, intellectually challenging course of study that will allow them to expand and deepen their understanding of the political, social, cultural, global, and historical dimensions of communication disciplines, the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies is for them.

As a cross-divisional, interdisciplinary undergraduate course of study, the Bachelor of Arts - Communication Studies offers students in-depth exposure to the scholarship and intellectual trends in communication. American University will empower them with the fundamental concepts that cut across the field, including journalism, public communication, and film. The breadth and rigor of this major will prepare them for graduate studies, research, or a professional career in the field of communication.
