About 2-Semester Pathway - Foundation Pathway in Engineering, Computing and Technology - Continue to Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Software Engineering
The University Foundation Pathway is Stage 1 of the undergraduate pathway. The transition from high school to university is a big step, perhaps the most important. Staff at ARU College understand this, and will provide students with ongoing guidance, support, and the knowledge and skills they need. It is this partnership between the students and the staff that will make this transition a smooth one.
This is a 2 trimester course, which means that an undergraduate degree will take 4 years to complete. During Stage 1 students will complete a range of modules relevant to their chosen degree, as well as modules concentrating on the skills that are vital for University level education such as Critical Thinking. Stage 1 will be the first stage in the 4 stage process. Meaning that on successful completion of stage 1 students will seamlessly progress to stage 2, which is the first year of a bachelor’s degree.
Students taking a foundation pathway in Engineering, Computing and Technology will find it necessary to work confidently in multi-disciplinary teams throughout their careers. This foundation program is structured around projects working with others from different degree programme, enabling them to begin to develop this extremely important transferable skill. Students can develop the knowledge and skills they need to create technologies and applications that will change the world.
During their foundation, learners will have opportunities for practical work and experimentation across a range of elements, including engineering design tasks centered on developing simple robots, in order to introduce the challenges and benefits of realizing theoretical ideas. There will be lectures and seminars combined with work-based learning and plenty of course options to personalize their studies.
The BSc (Hons) Software Engineering degree is designed to equip students with a solid, employability-focused overview of software development and design and prepare them for their first professional role or to continue their studies. The course focuses on Full-Stack development and implementation of real-world systems, enabling learners to develop skills in high-level, object-oriented programming languages such as C# or JAVA. It also includes application and web development.
Methodologies such as agile and DevOps will ensure that students graduate the course ready to work in a team-based environment through the application of their learning to live briefs, supported by industry partners.
