About 2-Semester Pathway - Foundation Pathway in Medical and Life Science - Continue to Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Medical Science
The University Foundation Pathway is Stage 1 of the undergraduate pathway. The transition from high school to university is a big step, perhaps the most important. Staff at ARU College understand this, and will provide students with ongoing guidance, support, and the knowledge and skills they need. It is this partnership between the students and the staff that will make this transition a smooth one.
This is a 2 trimester course. which means that an undergraduate degree will take 4 years to complete. During Stage 1 students will complete a range of modules relevant to their chosen degree, as well as modules concentrating on the skills that are vital for University level education such as Critical Thinking. Stage 1 will be the first stage in the 4 stage process. Meaning that on successful completion of stage 1 students will seamlessly progress to stage 2, which is the first year of a bachelor’s degree.
During their Medical and Life Science pathway study, learners will be given an introduction to the various scientific disciplines underpinning the life sciences. Fundamental mathematical skills will be covered in order to support students’ other subjects and give them confidence in manipulating data. In addition to this, students will be introduced to:
- Molecular and cellular biology, and how these fields are applied to real-world investigations.
- Biology of micro and macro organisms, with reference to both human and animal structures.
- Core concepts of chemistry, with a particular focus on organic chemistry.
- Core principles of physics, applied to living organisms.
Successful completion of this pathway will lead to the award of Royal Society of Biology accredited, BSc (Hons) Medical Science. In this degree course, students will broaden their understanding of the human body while exploring the development of disease and how it can be prevented. They'll also learn the theories and practice behind modern medicine. This will help them prepare for a rewarding career in a medical lab, helping diagnose, treat and prevent disease.
