About Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Interior Design and Styling (Extended Degree)
For students who want to pursue a creative degree at Arts University Plymouth but feel they have yet to acquire the experience and range of skills necessary, the Extended BA program will prepare them for entry to one of the university's BA (Hons) undergraduate courses.
This four-year route offers an exploratory year, developing students' insight into a range of art, design and media skills and approaches, before progressing onto a specialist degree of their choice.
Arts University Plymouth's Extended BA environment is dynamic and supportive, helping students discover their own particular passions and strengths within the creative arts, whilst building their academic confidence, purpose and direction.
Students will also gain first-hand experience of their chosen specialism, in the form of a module of specialist personal investigation where they can develop their own interests in their chosen degree subject.
Arts University Plymouth's Interior Design & Styling degree generates inspired graduates, who are both visually intelligent and well acquainted with technical drawing packages. Cutting across a range of interior disciplines, students will gain a great introduction to designing interiors for a range of environments - from residential and commercial spaces to public realm and even transport.
Students' studies will place special emphasis on color, surface, decoration and ambience in a range of interior contexts, both public and private. They will develop their own distinct taste in style curation, exploring lighting, furnishing, materiality and textural finishes to make their design concepts a reality.
Through a variety of projects students will find their own interior specialism, which could range from hospitality design or styling for editorial to designing yachts or airplanes. They will also develop a keen understanding of consumer trends and learn how to design for different levels of the market, whilst refining their presentation skills. Specialist modules cover interior project management, history of design, event planning and live design briefs. Hard skills that students will develop include technical drawing, visualization, editorial photography and use of CAD software.
Students will work in dedicated design studios, with skilled technical support staff. They will have access to Arts University Plymouth's Fab Lab for digital prototyping, as well as wood, metal and glass workshops, digital print facilities, AutoCAD design software and design intelligence facilities. The university's extensive photographic resources include large-format scanners as well as an infinity cove - a seamless curved studio with solid backdrop for commercial-standard photography.
