About Academic Bridge - Bachelor of Arts - History

Program Description

Academic Bridge Program will provide you with extra academic support for one semester prior to gaining full admission to Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM). During the Bridge semester, you will be enrolled in courses designed specifically for "bridging the gap" to a continued and successful college career. Bridge courses consist of a University Success course, as well as a Math and/or English course. Throughout the semester, faculty and staff on our Bridge team will assist you by teaching you skills needed for success in college. The Bridge Program connects you with campus resources so that you can thrive at AUM.

As an AUM history major, you’ll cultivate a range of skills suitable for a variety of careers. Studying in the shadow of the Confederacy and the Civil Rights Movement, you’ll gain an understanding of the cultural legacy you’ve inherited from both — and from the rest of the world too. You’ll learn to research a problem, evaluate evidence, and persuade others to accept your conclusions — skills that will not only prepare you to be a professional historian, teacher, archivist, museum curator, or historical consultant but also equip you to be a writer, editor, journalist, lawyer, public relations specialist, business administrator, foreign service officer and more.

The AUM History Department offers courses that cover the gamut of historical inquiry; by time (ancient to the present), by place (Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas), and by topic (Politics, Economics, Culture, and War). AUM’s history students enjoy opportunities to earn scholarships and participate in a range of professional activities, most notably the AUM Historical Review, an annual journal written and edited entirely by history majors.
