About Bachelor of Arts - Art - Art History
Art History will build visual skills, critical reasoning, and prepare students for careers in curation in art galleries and museums.
The ideal student has an interest in interpreting visual culture and connecting it to the societies that created it. Art History students will also gain experience making art in order to better understand what they see. Students will also take some coursework in modern languages.
APSU houses the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts which brings great speakers and exhibiting artists that students are able to meet and assist with installing exhibitions. Students will take 3 classes in 2 art disciplines to have some depth of study in art making. Students have opportunities to study abroad in Italy, or complete up to two internships at regional museums and galleries.
Course Outcomes:
- Students will learn to read and interpret historical and contemporary artworks to better understand their meaning and form.
- Students will learn to conduct visual and historical research.
- Students will learn to make arguments, and demonstrate critical thinking through written papers.
- Students will learn the craftsmanship and techniques of making art.
