Bachelor of Science - Kinesiology - Exercise Science

The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science will prepare students to sit for the Exercise Physiologist Certification through the American College of Sports Medicine, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist test through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and prepare students for graduate study in Kinesiology or Exercise Science. Globally, students who earn a degree in kinesiology will be prepared to enter strength and conditioning (e.g. personal training) and exercise physiology careers.

This degree is for students who wish to get an in-depth understanding of exercise science while also preparing for graduate education or prepping for the Certified Exercise Physiologist credential through the American College of Sports Medicine, or the Strength and Conditioning Specialist credential through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The kinesiology major is ideal for students who desire to learn best practices in strength and conditioning/exercise physiology and ultimately graduate with the knowledge and skill set that allows them to create exercise programs that maximize performance and reduce injury risk.

The classes are both traditional classroom lecture-based classes and hands-on application-type classes. Many courses in the kinesiology major are taught via a combination of lecture and lab activities to optimize student learning and comprehension of course content. Students will work collaboratively with their faculty members to create a positive and engaging classroom experience.

The faculty who teach in the Kinesiology program have research interests in exercise program design, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS™), exercise and aging adult population, student success/well-being, running injuries and gait biomechanics.
