About Master of Science - Computer Science and Quantitative Methods - Mathematics Instruction
Students in the program have a strong desire to improve their mathematics content and pedagogy skills. This concentration is designed for secondary teachers and others interested in mathematics education, such as coaches, tutors, and other educators.
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science and Quantitative Methods bring together science and business skills to give students a greater competitive advantage in the workforce.
The Mathematics Instruction Concentration is ideal for anyone currently teaching secondary mathematics or has a desire to dual enrollment or community college mathematics. This concentration is designed to increase mathematics content and pedagogy skills and complete their degrees while continuing to teach secondary mathematics.
The Mathematics Education Concentration students have frequent opportunities to attend conferences and present their research while working closely with the mathematics education faculty. This program follows the National Board for Professional Teaching Mathematics Certification Standards, completing many components of the Standards process.
This concentration has a nice mix of mathematics content, pedagogy, education, and technology. Students will explore advanced perspectives of algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics and probability, in addition to selecting from a variety of mathematics elective courses, such as number theory, mathematics history, programming, and technology.
The faculty in the Mathematics Instruction Concentration have experience teaching mathematics at all levels of secondary and post-secondary school. Many faculty maintain their teaching licenses. The faculty are active in local, state, and national professional mathematics education organizations.
