About Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Archaeological, Anthropological and Forensic Sciences (4K2M) (Placement Year)
Program Description
Blending laboratory and field science within a meticulous academic framework to develop students' careers, this degree bridges the disciplines of science and humanities. The course content will prepare students for a wide range of fascinating career opportunities in archaeology, anthropology, forensic investigation and other applied sciences.
During this degree, students will receive expert-led theoretical and practical training that covers the inter-related human investigative science of crime scene scenarios, archaeological and anthropological theory and problem solving. This course will develop students as motivated researchers with strong portfolios of transferable skills. In addition to focusing on forensic science and archaeology students will also study social anthropology. In year two and the final year students will have a choice of units to satisfy their own personal interests and career ambitions.
To improve employability prospects once students graduate, the course includes a five week and an optional 30-week period in placement (depending on the length of the degree chosen). Not only will this reinforce what they've learnt in BU's state-of-the-art labs and facilities, but students could also build an invaluable network of professional contacts, and secure real world work experience that will critically enhance their CV. To add to their professional portfolio, this degree is recognized by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences.
Students will also attend BU’s archaeological field school, the Place Field School, at the end of their first year. This is a large scale excavation, where in previous years, students have discovered significant finds that have changed the way we view the past. It's a unique opportunity to gain experience of working on a real site.
