Bachelor of Arts - Ancient History (V110)

The multi-faceted programme offered is designed to cater to students with varying levels of prior knowledge in the ancient world. It aims to develop their knowledge and critical understanding of these intriguing ancient societies, encompassing their political, social, economic, and cultural structures. Additionally, the programme aims to equip students with the necessary skills to excel at university level and beyond.

The programme places equal importance on social and cultural topics alongside political history. Students will explore captivating themes that hold contemporary relevance, such as warfare, gender and sexuality, religion, medicine, art, and literature. Through this exploration, they will come to understand how antiquity continues to inspire the modern world.

Students will learn to assess the range of available evidence for studying the ancient world. They will also develop the ability to evaluate differing and sometimes conflicting interpretations of the past, enabling them to construct their own robust and coherent arguments. Communication skills will be honed through practice in presenting ideas to various audiences through diverse media and formats. Finally, students will have the opportunity to design and conduct an individual research project on a subject of their choice as the culmination of their degree.
