Master of Science - Environment and Development

The MSc Environment and Development program offers students the opportunity to gain an understanding of the ideological positions that shape development policies and the shortcomings of environmental management. It also allows for an examination of the tendencies to exploit nature for resources and private ownership, as well as the formulation and implementation of environmental regulations. The program explores the successes and failures of governmental institutions, the interactions between different socio-economic sectors, groups, and communities, and the social and cultural factors that contribute to development and environmental change. Additionally, it delves into the political reactions, grassroots mobilization, and alliances that occur on various geographical scales, countries, and locations.

The program also considers why and how the appeal of development continues to influence governments, social groups, and international relations, despite generating uneven, short-term benefits and long-lasting consequences. It critically analyzes the limitations of policies influenced by environmentalism and narrow sustainability agendas, which often fail to address broader social, political, and economic expectations. This discussion is an integral part of the program's curriculum.
