About Master of Arts - History - Liberal Arts - Thesis Option

History provides a form of knowledge that people in all times and places have used to answer important questions about the human predicament.

We know that you have unique interests, goals, and talents. We’ve tailored our program to reflect those diverse needs, offering three programs of study and a variety of experience-based opportunities. Our program is designed to be completed in two academic years.

Programs of study include an MA with Thesis, MA without Thesis, and a Public History track. Emphasis areas within the Public History track include Historic Preservation, Museum Studies, and Cultural Resource Management.

Nestled in the Rocky Mountain foothills and just an hour away from Denver, Fort Collins is home to the best of both worlds. There are over 300 miles of bike trails in the city, over 300 sunny days each year, and an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities like mountain biking, rock climbing, and hiking. Fort Collins is consistently rated as one of the country’s most desirable places to live.

The thesis option provides instruction through small seminars and individual study, and stresses historiography and research methods. This program requires a minimum of 30 semester credits, a master's thesis, and knowledge of a foreign language (see below: Plan A check sheet re: language test). This option is usually pursued in anticipation of further advanced degrees, mainly in such fields as history, business, or law.
