About Master of Education - Education and Human Resource Studies - Counseling and Career Development - School Counseling

The mission of the School of Education is to use communication, leadership, and facilitation skills effectively in teaching, research, and engagement in order to empower and support prospective and practicing educators to become personally and professionally competent, effective, and caring community members.

The Counseling and Career Development program prepares professional counselors following the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards so that graduates are able to help people of all ages develop the self-awareness, exploration, decision making, and self-advocacy skills needed to live effective lives within a pluralistic society.

Graduates of the Counseling and Career Development program receive a world-class education through relevant, interpersonal, and technology-rich learning experiences. The CCD program currently offers two specializations: career counseling and school counseling.

Graduates of the school counseling track are prepared to serve as professional school counselors in K-12 educational settings. Professional school counselors work to meet the academic, social-emotional, and career needs of all students through individual, group, and classroom delivery modalities. Through advocacy, collaboration, and leadership, school counseling graduates serve as systemic change agents striving to ensure equitable educational access by engaging in data-informed practice, reducing multi-level barriers, and promoting culturally sensitive decision-making.
