About 12 Weeks Pre-Sessional English + 3-Term Pathway - Incorporated Bachelor Year Zero in Art and Design - Continue to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Footwear Design
Students can get the perfect start to their degree at De Montfort University with the International Year Zero (IYZ). Students will take an extra year of study at De Montfort University International College (DMUIC) in order to complete a degree at DMU. Students who take the IYZ will continue to the first year of study of their chosen International Incorporated Bachelor's degree programme at DMU.
This delivery of the IYZ programme includes a twelve week pre-sessional English course immediately preceding entry to the programme. Throughout the pre-sessional English and IYZ programme, students will be supported at DMUIC. Students will have individual subject tutors who will make sure that they are on track to achieve their study goals. Students will be given feedback both in person and in writing so that they always know how they are doing, and how to improve. Students will also be assessed through regular tests and exams.
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Footwear Design
Footwear Design at DMU covers the unique and complex shoe design process, and will enable students to acquire the knowledge and skills that set them apart from others in the fashion sector.
Throughout the course students' shoe design and technical making skills will be developed, emphasising the crucial relationship between design and manufacture and the needs of the footwear industry.
Students will develop their design, research, drawing and illustration skills, and the ability to present and communicate ideas and concepts to a high professional standard. This includes a series of shoe design projects focusing on a comprehensive range of footwear styles. Students will learn technical modern shoemaking skills and make a range of prototype shoes of their own using excellent specialist studio facilities including 3D design equipment.
DMU has a unique series of guest speaker events which take place throughout the year and have included Guy West and Liam Fahy; these events give students the chance to network with industry.
