About Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Laws (060431B)
Students can gain a broad understanding of all major legal areas while exploring the underlying reasons behind criminal behavior. As a graduate of Deakin University's Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Laws students will earn two in-demand degrees that complement each other and the dual expertise to see crime and law from a unique perspective.
Students will be guided through the latest theory and topical case studies by criminology and law academics who are true subject matter experts and actively contribute to their fields.
Students will also be challenged to apply their skills in real-world settings at the Deakin University Law Clinic. Working on real cases, they will address criminal justice issues alongside industry professionals on work placement and join a global study itinerary that connects them with the brightest minds in the international law arena.
The legal profession is highly commercialized, with lawyers increasingly required to provide clients with practical and commercial advice, in addition to legal expertise. A distinctive feature of Deakin University's accredited Bachelor of Laws is its focus on practical learning. Through the combination of sound legal training with real-world experience and work-integrated learning, students will develop key skills in problem-solving, analytical thinking and ethical reasoning across all major areas of law, including:
- contract
- torts
- property
- legal practice and ethics
- constitutional law
- criminal law and procedure
- administrative law
In the program, students will study the relationship between criminal behavior and sociology, the impact of mental health, education and substance abuse. They can find out what drives criminal behavior, and how to develop systems and programs to prevent it from happening.
