Education Specialist - Educational Leadership

Program Description

The Educational Leadership Specialist (EdS) program provides students with an area of educational specialization — with an emphasis on practice — to prepare them for administrative positions within a school system, such as elementary, middle and high school principal or superintendent.

Through our Educational Leadership (EdS) program, students will learn how to:

• Effectively run urban schools
• Design and implement curriculum
• Develop critical and creative thinking skills
• Positively impact school culture by meeting the needs of diverse student populations

The Educational Leadership (EdS) program offers advanced study beyond a master’s if students are not interested in pursuing a doctoral degree that requires a culminating dissertation or capstone. And by earning their EdS in Educational Leadership students will increase their skills for advanced licensure requirements or to meet state or professional requirements that can often be beneficial for their own career advancement and development in the field.

All in-person classes meet in the evenings on the Lincoln Park Campus. The program can be completed in just over three years.

Students will be able to:

• Facilitate, develop, and implement a shared notion of learning and curriculum from input of all district-wide stakeholders.
• Identify, understand, and apply relevant theory to create a professional learning community of growth for all district-wide stakeholders.
• Utilize and assess processes and policies for district-wide procedures with respect to efficient operations and management.
• Comprehend, and apply legal standards to prevent, mitigate, and redress harm to all district side stakeholders.
• Understand, implement, and evaluate all practices to ensure success of all students through integrity and fairness.
