About Master of Arts - Marriage and Family Therapy (Art Therapy)

Dominican University of California's MA in Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT) students learn through practical experience and hands-on training guided by credentialed faculty. 

The MAMFT is a 63-unit course of study, which prepares students to become Registered Art Therapists (ATR) and Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT). With two additional courses (career counseling and trauma) taken during the program or after graduation, MAMFT students may also sit for the examination to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).

The MAMFT program at Dominican has been granted WSCUC approval by the WASC Senior College and University Commission.

Master of Art in Marriage and Family Therapy students will demonstrate:

  • Ability to understand, integrate, and communicate research data related to Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, and Art Therapy.
  • Professional development and clinical suitability.
  • Ability to effectively apply individual, group, marriage, and family therapy and Art Therapy Interventions.
  • Understanding of the methods of implementation of interventions related to Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, and Art Therapy as well as claims and evidence in research.
  • Understanding and ability to implement ethical and legal guidelines in clinical and scholarly work.
