About College Certificate III - Individual Support + College Diploma - Mental Health

The Certificate III in Individual Support will prepare students for work in the Aged Care, Home and Community Care and Disability sectors.

The content of the Individual Support course will introduce students to all aspects of a career's role in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualized plan to provide person-centered support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

Workers involved in Individual Support need the physical capacity to deal with a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support.

Occupational titles include:
  • Personal care assistant (PCA)
  • Nursing assistant (AIN)
  • Home care assistant
  • Community support worker
The Diploma of Mental Health covers workers who provide a range of community services focusing on:
  • Rehabilitation and support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability
  • Implementing community-based activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability
  • Mental health promotion work
This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide services to clients in relation to mental health issues. They can provide counselling, referral, advocacy, and education/health promotion services. These workers are required to have high-level specialist knowledge, skills, and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting people with mental health issues, the range of services available to them and health issues related to mental health.
