About Global First Year (2-Semester) - Bachelor of Arts - Asian Studies
The FIU Global First Year Program combines credit-bearing courses from the first year of a student’s degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to their academic and language level, and cultural experiences, helping ensure their future success. Furthermore, the Global First Year experience provides more than academic, language, and cultural growth. Also, with the included Career Accelerator program, students can gain valuable professional skills that prepare them for a successful career.
The Career Accelerator is designed specifically for international students:
Four semesters of professional development and career guidance
Skills-based training and opportunities for exclusive internships
Unique workshops, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural group work
As the world becomes increasingly global, and barriers of communication and distance are broken down, individuals are faced with different cultures, languages, and values. Businesses, politicians, economists, and sociologists, among others, are finding ways to deal with this international explosion. The greatest boom in growth and power for the past half-century, and still speeding ahead, is the Asian region. To stay competitive in today’s workforce, one must have an all-inclusive understanding of all aspects and a thorough comprehension of the multicultural challenges inherent in today’s global business environment and politics. The Asian Studies B.A. will equip students with the skills and knowledge to remain competitive in today’s international environment. Students will develop behavioral and cultural sensitivity and knowledge, acquire critical language skills, and foster awareness of current affairs in Asia, in addition to having access to local/national internship opportunities as well as study abroad and semester exchange programs.
There are different concentrations within the BA in Asian Studies:
Asian Cultural Studies Concentration
International Political Economy of Asia Concentration
East Asian Studies Concentration
Asian World Affairs Concentration
Each concentration offers a unique focus within the field of Asian Studies, providing students with specialized knowledge and skills to succeed in an increasingly globalized world.
