About A-Levels - Textile Design (Fashion/Interior Design)

Program Description

The course aims to nurture creativity and personal strengths through independent study.

The design process and its development is an essential part of the course therefore workshops in markmaking, colourwork and design process skills are covered. Students will use a variety of decorative techniques such as hand printing, embroidery and hand dyeing. Fabric construction, manipulation and embellishment will also be covered. Students are encouraged to explore the use of both traditional and non-traditional materials, such as plastic, wire and paper and to research and study the work of other artists, designers and craft persons (both contemporary and historical).

The course offers a variety of workshops during the first term e.g. felt making, weaving, transfer paint printing and machine embroidery. For projects students will be given the opportunity to use our contemporary industrial equipment: laser cutter/etch, computerised embroidery machine and Mimaki wide format printer for fabric.

To enhance their studies, an educational visit will be offered to both AS and A2 level students, giving the opportunity to visit a venue related to Art and Design Textile. A2 Textile Design students will exhibit their work at our annual Art and Design exhibition in June.

Also, there is the great opportunity to be entered for the Urdd Eisteddfod National Art, Design and Technology Competitions. This year our students in A Level Textile Design have won 1st prize 3D Textiles, 1st prize Fashion and 1st Prize Design and Technology. One student won the overall National Art, Design and Technology medal.
