Program Description
Build a future by studying in the UK, with a pathway course at Kaplan International College (KIC) London. Situated in the world’s top academic city (QS Best Student Cities 2019), the College will prepare students for a university degree, and for a successful career.
Study at one of the most respected international colleges in London, and progress to one of 8 universities, including the University of Bristol.
The University of Bristol is a highly ranked Russell Group university with a fantastic reputation. Students will join a global community of students from more than 150 countries, and enjoy life in one of the UK’s most exciting cities.
This course combines philosophy with the study of Russian and provides a valuable skill set that is ideally tailored to the increasingly globalised workplace.
Russia continues to assert itself as an independent, powerful political and economic force; Russian expertise has never been more vital in a range of professions.
Students will spend their third year abroad, studying or working in a Russian-speaking environment. This will enable them to refine their language skills and cultural knowledge. For further details of year abroad opportunities visit Global Opportunities.
In each year students will take an equal number of credits in Russian and philosophy. Russian studies will explore Russia's dramatic literature and cinema, brutal history and complex culture. For philosophy students will study units covering a wide range of areas of philosophy.
In the first year students will gain a grounding in the fundamentals of philosophy through two mandatory introductory units – one exploring issues in epistemology and metaphysics, and the other concerning moral and political philosophy. They will also take a unit in critical thinking and logic.
In year two of philosophy students complete their foundation in philosophy with mandatory units and conduct more detailed study in topics ranging from ethics to philosophy of language.
In the final year of philosophy students may undertake an independent study unit on almost any topic in philosophy, writing an extended essay in consultation with a supervisor. Final-year taught units relate to the research interests of staff in areas ranging from global justice to philosophy of physics.
