About 4-Term Pathway - Foundation Certificate for Science and Engineering - Transfer to Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Chemistry with Computing

Program Description

Build a future by studying in the UK, with a pathway course at Kaplan International College (KIC) London. Situated in the world’s top academic city (QS Best Student Cities 2019), the College will prepare students for a university degree, and for a successful career.

Study at one of the most respected international colleges in London, and progress to one of 8 universities, including the University of Bristol.

The University of Bristol is a highly ranked Russell Group university with a fantastic reputation. Students will join a global community of students from more than 150 countries, and enjoy life in one of the UK’s most exciting cities.

The BSc Chemistry with Scientific Computing combines study of the structure and synthesis of matter with development of computational and data analysis skills. It creates a new kind of scientist – one with a firm foundation in chemistry, a sound appreciation of scientific computing and an understanding of what can be achieved by combining them.

The course offers a unique combination of units and projects incorporating coding, machine-learning and high-performance computing, with fundamental concepts in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry; and applications in analytical, environmental, materials and theoretical chemistry.

Students will learn to design experiments, interpret results and apply computing skills to problems in chemistry, and they will take units in communications and mathematics.

The course also includes a final-year project. Options include working in a research laboratory or addressing a problem faced by researchers in academia, industry, or a local school. Through the project students might develop science resources, explore computing applications or carry out chemistry education research. Regardless of the setting, an expert in scientific computing and a specialist in chemistry will both be involved.

Bristol has one of the biggest groups of computational chemists in the country. Units are taught by experts in fundamental chemistry, computational chemistry, scientific computing and research software engineering. The application of computing skills in chemistry will be emphasised throughout the chemistry units.
