If students are naturally curious about the planet and interested in finding solutions to global problems, then this course could be fitting. Students will learn about the physics, chemistry and history of the Earth through examining earth materials such as rocks, minerals and fossils, and using remote sensing techniques such as seismic waves to explore the structure and chemistry of its inaccessible areas.

In years one and two students will gain a firm grounding in earth sciences, building their knowledge to inform a choice of third-year options. The third year also includes an independent mapping project, either in the UK or overseas.

Bristol has a large geology collection and the ability to measure unique geochemical reactions, giving students a real feel for geology in practice. The course includes over 40 days of fieldwork in the UK and overseas, the cost of which is included in the tuition fee.

All the geology degrees are accredited by the Geological Society of London and transfers between courses may be possible.
