About Associate of Arts - Philosophy

Program Description

Philosophy is a practice that teaches self-reflection and critical inquiry.  These skills enable sound judgment in every endeavour. The philosophy department at KPU offers a full range of courses taught by experienced philosophers with backgrounds at universities from across Canada and around the world.  Students enjoy the benefit of small classes, with instructors and an institution committed to teaching.

The Associate Degree in Philosophy at KPU is designed to foster the development of general critical reasoning and writing skills. Students pursuing the Associate Degree will experience a learning environment that is supportive and challenging. They will receive a solid introduction to the critical reasoning, writing, and problem-solving skills required for successful careers in any area.

An Associate of Arts degree is a degree normally completed in two years. Students who pursue an AA degree will choose an area of concentration. A concentration in philosophy requires five philosophy courses within the two year program. Since many students will continue their studies, the requirements for an AA degree are sufficiently flexible to enable students who plan their educational program carefully to complete the required prerequisites for third year course work at the university of their choice, including Kwantlen.
