About Associate Degree - Associate of Arts
The Associate of Arts degree at LaSalle College Vancouver prepares graduates for further study in a Faculty of Arts bachelor’s degree program at one of British Columbia’s universities. The program provides students a comprehensive liberal arts education in a supportive and nurturing learning environment, and supports the development of strong critical thinking, communication and research skills sought after by employers. Students can be expected to complete the program in 1 to 2 years.
This program consists of 60 credits over 4 quarters.
Objectives
The goal of this program is to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences that are foundational to be successful in pursuing an undergraduate degree in the Arts, Humanities, Social and Natural Sciences.
Graduates Learn
- To think critically and solve problems using mathematical and/or scientific reasoning.
- To demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
- To use information responsibly by discerning authority, evaluating the relevance of information to their purpose, and by appropriately documenting sources.
- To interpret and analyze artistic work, historical events, or philosophical thought and describe the relevance of that work to themselves, society, and cultures.
- To analyze the nature, diversity, and impact of social, political, psychological, and economic thought on the individual, institutions, and differing cultures.
Who Should Apply?
- Students directly out of high school, or mature students who are ready to pursue an undergraduate degree at one of British Columbia’s university
- Students who have already completed a certificate or diploma and want to pursue further academic studies
- Students interested in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences
- Students interested in developing their critical thinking perspective and gaining a comprehensive liberal arts education
- Students who want to better understand themselves, their communities, and the world
Career Opportunities
Students who graduate from the program will be prepared to begin further study at the baccalaureate level at LaSalle College Vancouver or one of British Columbia’s research universities. While it is expected that the majority of students who graduate will pursue further education, students who choose to enter the workforce will have gained the communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are so highly sought-after by employers.
Note: You are eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) if you complete this degree program and you meet all other PGWP criteria.
